MEET IAN

Wasilla is home. I grew up here, spent my childhood here, and today my wife, Calliann, and I are raising our three children in the community that shaped so much of who I am.


I’ve worked in Alaska real estate since 2018, helping families buy and sell homes throughout the Mat-Su Valley and Anchorage. Before being elected to the City Council in 2023, I served on the Wasilla Planning Commission, including as Vice Chair.


Those experiences have given me a firsthand view of why people choose Wasilla, the pressures that come with growth, and how decisions at City Hall affect families, property owners, and businesses.


I ran for Council because I wanted Wasilla to grow responsibly without losing the character that makes people want to live here in the first place.

GROWTH IS COMING. LET'S SHAPE IT.

Wasilla is going to continue to change. We can’t stop growth, and I don’t think we should try.


The question is whether we plan for that growth and shape it around the kind of community we want—or wait until traffic, infrastructure shortages, and development pressures begin making those decisions for us.


That means planning infrastructure before we need it, making room for housing and businesses, protecting established neighborhoods, removing unnecessary regulations, and staying disciplined with taxpayer dollars.


My goal isn’t to change what Wasilla is. It’s to make sure growth doesn’t change it for us.

 Helped lead the rewrite of Wasilla’s land-use code, reducing more than 300 pages of regulations to roughly 150 while making the rules clearer for residents, property owners, builders, and businesses.

 Championed and secured funding for Wasilla’s Comprehensive, Economic Development, Water, Sewer, Airport, and Parks plans so major investments can be guided by long-term needs instead of short-term fixes.

PUT SAVINGS BEFORE TAXES

 Introduced Resolution 24-13 and worked with state officials to advance improvements to traffic flow and safety on a major corridor into Wasilla. The project was adopted and funded by the State of Alaska.

 Consistently pushed for greater scrutiny of City spending, supported meaningful budget reductions, and worked to find savings before asking Wasilla residents to pay more.

 Introduced legislation establishing clearer rules for the use of City vehicles and worked to increase transparency and Council oversight of how money is moved within the City budget.

 Supported growth and development while standing by adopted planning documents and residents when proposed changes could fundamentally alter established neighborhoods. 

WHAT COMES NEXT

Wasilla is growing quickly, and the decisions we make now will shape our community for decades. My focus for another term is making sure we stay ahead of that growth instead of constantly reacting to it. 

INFRASTRUCTURE FIRST

Wasilla’s water, wastewater, roads, and other core infrastructure have to keep pace with development. I want to use the plans we’ve put in place to prioritize investments, increase capacity, and address aging systems before they become emergencies. 

RESPONSIBLE GROWTH

We need more housing, more businesses, and continued private investment—but growth should fit within a larger vision for Wasilla. I’ll continue supporting development while protecting neighborhoods, respecting property rights, and making sure infrastructure can support what we approve. 

FISCAL DISCIPLINE

Growth will bring pressure to spend more. My approach remains the same: scrutinize spending, look for savings, and make sure we are getting value from the dollars we already collect before asking residents to pay more. 

BUILDING A STRONGER COMMUNITY

Wasilla should be more than a place people drive through or come to shop. I want to continue improving parks, recreation, community events, and public spaces that give families more reasons to spend time here and strengthen the sense of community that makes Wasilla home.

KEEP WASILLA MOVING FORWARD

 When I first ran for City Council, I promised to ask questions, plan ahead, watch how the City spends your money, and keep Wasilla’s long-term future in mind. That’s the approach I’ve brought to the Council.


We’ve made real progress—modernizing outdated regulations, planning for infrastructure, improving accountability, and preparing for the growth already coming our way. Now much of that work is beginning to move from planning into implementation.


I’m asking for your vote for another term so we can finish what we started and keep Wasilla moving forward without losing what makes it home.
